The choice of contract type (i.e., cost or pricing arrangement) is one of the most important, if not the most important, decisions made during the planning phase. This training will discuss the concept of "contract type", the federal policies governing the choice of contract types, the characteristics and application of the most common contract types, and the allocation of risk for different contract types.

This training will introduce attendees to the proper vocabulary to describe contract types and clarify the confusion caused by the organization of FAR part 16. The training will then guide attendees through the effect of contract type selection on payment, inspection, and termination. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of how different contract types allocate risk between the contracting parties.
